    Searchable Glossary

     Hi -

I'm evaluating HATs for a customer who wants us to build a web based application. I have a lot of questions so I'll be hanging around here for awhile ;-) .

Will D2H create a searchable Glossary out of the Help HTML files I write?

In fact, can I use D2H to build a HTML - platform independent Help for a web based app so that the entire Help documentation is searchable?

    TIA for your expertise.

     Hi,

YES, NetHelp is platform independent and has a search function for the entire help documentation. You have two choices to create a search index: either using Java or  JavaScript. Try what fits the demands of your customer better, simply create 2 NetHelp help targets within the same project, with different settings for SearchType.

I don't understand what you mean with searchable Glossary, so I cannot answer the first question.

    Hello

Help files generated using D2H have the search functionality (it also includes Natural Search as an advanced feature, available in D2H Enterprise). User can search for any term or string in the entire help document (including Glossary).

Since your customer’s application is web based, you may use the NetHelp target/format in D2H, which will generate a browser independent (which support DHTML) online Help. You may take a look at the C1 online documentation, which is a NetHelp file.

Click on the Contents button to see TOC and the search button, to search for any term in the help file.

    Regard

    Re: Searchable Glossary

Sabine  - thank you.  I was just wondering if, when a user entered a search term, if the glossary, index, toc and all the help files would be searched for the term. So when you said it "has a search function for the entire help documentation" - that probably includes the glossary too.  Right?

Another issue has come up - If I'm using NetHelp (so that I get the nifty search capability) - is all the help documentation 508 compliant?

    Thanks for your help.

Patrick - That's a great link. Thanks. Whew! I think ALL my D2H capability questions are answered now. ;-)
