Is there some documentation somewhere, hopefully that I share with users, that tells how to use D2H's "search" (for NetHelp) function? How does one search for the phrase "Vista and Office?" How do I search for all pages that have the word "Vista" and do NOT have the word "Windows?"How do I specify the difference between AND searches (show me pages with "Windows" and "Vista") and OR searches (show me pages with "Windows" or "Vista")?
I've tried using OR, AND, plus/minus signs, quotes, etc., nothing seems to work.
Hello,
I can understand your concern that you are having some issue with the search functionality of the Nethelp target.
Please note that the feature to search an exact phrase by putting in between the ÂQuotation Marks is currently available in Nethelp target. A similar issue is already escalated to the development team (TTP ID: 19062).
However, the same option is available in Help 2.0, HTML and Winhelp.
I apologize for the inconvenience caused to you due to this issue.
Regards,
Andrew

1. My question was, "Is there some documentation that tells how to use D2H "search." Is there?
2. My experience does NOT agree with your comment. When I put a phrase in quotes, the results I get are no different than if I didn't use quotes.
I don't know how to tell which version of D2H I am using, but it's D2H2009 and a fairly recent one.
Also, the D2H documention itself does not perform as you say. When I enter a search phrase inside quotes, I get back pages that have any of the words.
I can understand your concern that you need documentation regarding Nethelp search
You may try to check the article given in the link below

I hope this would be helpful.

Hi, I also have the same question. When I type words in quotation marks in my nethelp project, I get the same results as if I didn't. The documentation link you sent does NOT tell me how to specify that text in quotes returns an EXACT search result.
Could you please be more specific, with a precise step-by-step procedure on how to do this?
For example:
To specify that the search function in your NetHelp file will recognize text entered in quotation marks, and return search results that contains ONLY an exact match of that text, do the following:
<procedure, please>
With reference to your query, I would like to inform you that the feature to search an exact phrase by putting in between the Quotation Mark is currently not available in Nethelp target. A similar issue is already escalated to the development team (TTP ID: 19062).
I apologize for the inconvenience caused to you due to this issue and as soon as we have any update on this issue we would surely inform you the same.

Do you know when this will be available. I cannot use the other formats, as I need a multi-platform solution. I am seriously considering abandoning Doc2Help for a better help authoring tool that can provide me with this feature. Our online help is basically useless without good search functionality.
I am also pretty amazed that basic on-line help has no search capabilities. "Search" is the most basic of technologies these days, and it seems like all software developers build search capabilities into their applications. That D2H doesn't offer search capabilities in their highly-touted Net Help model is, well, I don't know what. Like a car without without a gas tank?
Is there any updates on this topic? Is there a update that fixes this? Does anyone have a work around that allows them to search nethelp using quotes?
Thanks,Kevin
