Cannot Activate Component with serial number

I bough't and downloaded component one studio enterprise today form site www.componentsource.com (ver 2008).
I had previous version (not licensed) installed on my computer.
Now, i uninstalled previos version and installed new fresh one. During installation it didn't ask me for seral number.
When installation process finished, i opened new project and try to create form with ribbon component.
New window pop up and ask me to Purchase, Activate or Register.
I clicked on Activate and filled form with serial number, pressed OK button but nothing happend. (Nag screen appears every time i build application.)
    I just can't activate it.
    What should I do!

I registered product on componentone web site.

    Please help.

Re: Cannot Activate Component with serial number

    Hi,

There are 2 possible problems that could cause this. Both are easy to solve.

    1. You might actually have a license on your machine from your previous installation. If so, you will need to remove that license (see this article for help: http://helpcentral.componentone.com/Article.aspx?ID=1906) and then re-activate your controls.

    2. If you don't have an old license on your machine, you will need to get the c1licensing.exe file and put it in your bin directory. You can get the file here: http://prerelease.componentone.com/dotnet20/c1licensing/2008-t1/C1Licensing2_2.0.20081.5.zip and place it in this directory: C:\Program Files\ComponentOne Studio.NET 2.0\bin

If neither of these work, please contact our support team for further assistance.

    Thanks!

The second approach worked for me.

    Thank You.

I have exactly the same problem, and neither approach worked for me. We have purchased 3 licenses and connat validate any of them.

I have a call in to support since friday last week - all they have done so far is request my license numbers. This is very poor C1.

We have even gone so far as to clean build a machine, reinstall everything from scratch and our licence keys will still not install.

just tried this again - used license bomber, started a new project, activated it and was told it had activated.

great! opened my existing project, right clicked on a flexgrid, sleected about... licensed... great!

Compiled the release exe, ran it... guess what? ComponentOne FlexGrid nagscreen for flexgrid. What is going on?

    Same thing happened to me.

    I did folowing:

I opened new blank project. Then, added Component One controls to Form and compiled. After that, licence file is generated. No nagscreen.

I copied content of this llicence file to licence file in my existing project. After compiling my existing project everything worked fine.

Re: Cannot Activate Component with serial number

     Hi Sinisa,

I sent you an email through the forums. If you don't get it, please email me directly - my contact info is below. There is not one solution to this issue but the most common problems are

-not having the C1Licensing.exe file in your Bin directory (if that is the case, you can download it here: http://prerelease.componentone.com/dotnet20/c1licensing/2008-t1/C1Licensing2_2.0.20081.5.zip

-not having the updated license installed on your machine (if that is the case, create a new project and drop a new control on the form. if you get an activation error or licensing error, enter your new license key)

-problem with your serial number. if this is the case i will need to know your serial number to fix the issue.

    thanks!

Cannot Activate Component with serial number

I am not sure if people are describing what I am going through but it is all very similar.  I started this job a few months ago.  My machine was built from scratch and every thing was installed new.  I can use the C1 controls on my machine through the VS2008 desktop IDE but when I Publish my web site to a server I get the nag screen for the menu control but not the grid.  I have the C1Licensing.exe file in my bin dir.  I have also added the serial number through the IDE but I can't make it happy on the production server.  In my Toolbox I can see controls for drag-and-drop like C1WebGrid and C1WebMaskEdit but NOT the menu.  Is this a clue?  It doesn't show on other machines here but I think I am the only one using the C1 menu.

I also tried uninstalling then reinstalling but no help (article ID 1906).

I have version 2.0.20071.150 of C1.Web.Command.2.dll if that helps.

I just updated to version 2.0.20073.170 - no help.  License no worky.

Added licenses.licx file.  Now worky.  The entry into the licenses.licx is almost identical to the directive at the top of the .aspx file.  Why is it ignored in the .aspx file?  Why even have it there?

Is the inside of a dog's mouth cleaner than a humans?

"Both are easy to solve." ... are you kidding ?  even your webteam has licensing problems (see : http://www.burningbox.com/divers/componentone_licence_bug.jpg )

i tried both solutions but the components refused my new license number...

i am trying to uninstall everything from c1 and start again... i seems that i do that many times a year... (soon it will be easier to buy components somewhere else...)

Re: Cannot Activate Component with serial number

     Hi mjTaylorh,

The controls need the license.licx file in order to verify that they are licensed. I am glad to hear that you got your problem resolved. For some reason, VS2008 does not automatically create the license.licx file when you add a component to a web application - this is a known Microsoft issue that impacts everyone who does licensing this way. See http://helpcentral.componentone.com/Article.aspx?ID=1912 for details.

    Thanks again for your feedback.

     Hi stevemettraux,

I am very sorry to hear that you are having so much trouble.

I am not sure why the components are not accepting your license number. I checked the serial # that we have in our database (renewed yesterday 5/7) and it appears valid. Please send me an email or submit a support incident so we can investigate further (http://www.componentone.com/Support/SubmitIncident.aspx). We will need to know some more details about the problem - what component and version you're trying to license, where you see the error, etc.

Re: Cannot Activate Component with serial number

I have downloaded the file C1Licensing.exe (v2.0.20081.5) and placed correctly into the bin folder. I also have run the C1LiveUpdate utility beforehand to update the controls to their latest release versions, again in the bin directory - not installed in GAC.

    When I then create a dummy application to Activate product and put in my Activation Key <snipped> on the Activate Product popup, I get the error;

"An attempt was made to load a program with an incorrect format. (Exception from HRESULT : 0x8007000B)"

I am guessing that since my key is a renewal key it is longer than the normal key, is there a way around activating all products?

I did submit a support incident, but it is since gone down, so thought this would be the quickest way.

    Many thanks, Bjorn Ahlstedt

Re: Cannot Activate Component with serial number

    Hi Bjorn (and all),

If you are on a 64-bit operating system you will need to use a new version of C1 Licensing. It is attached to this message and can also be found here: http://prerelease.componentone.com/dotnet20/c1licensing/2008-t2/C1Licensing2_2.0.20082.6.zip
