    Formulas on XLS for .net

     Hi,
Is it possible to create formulas on the cells?

I can't find any samples on this.

    Thanks,
    Alex

    Hello,

There is no support for creating or adding formulas. C1XLS will read and write Excel
formulas, which allows you to load existing XLS files, modify some cells, and save the
file back to disk preserving the formulas.

I hope this answers your query.

    Regards,
    Allen

So that means that the advertising is lying to all of us when it says that we can "easily read and write Excel files".

There used to be older messages about this error on this very forum from several years ago and nothing was done then except to get rid of them.

Without formulae, you might as well manipulate a string array with standard .NET grids and make a SaveAs function to a .csv format text file.

The XLS component is worse than useless because it's only in the suite to take up space.

Which of the other 'included' components are guilty of the same sin? How did this suite ever win any awards?

What are the ComponentOne plans for any solution to this BUG without everyone buying another version and/or going to a competitor?

Re: Formulas on XLS for .net

I bought the ComponentOne suite a long time ago, while this is almost the only one around and VS had nothing but a few months of release time.

What I found then was a set of products needing a lot of testing, very buggy.
From the ComponentOne part, a lot of effort to make it right, releasing new versions twice a week fixing a lot of errors.

As it looked like this would never end, I moved on to DevExpress and I'm still very happy now with the DXEnterprise package.

Recently I received a notification that I had won this ComponentOne package and I thought... wow... what a luck!
$999 product just knocking at my door.

Sadly enough I can't find anything better than what I have with DevExpress.
The only tool that could relief me some pain in the neck (this XLS component) does nothing exciting and nothing that I couldn't already do with my current tools.

I find this really sad because this is one of the first packages available for .net but a few years later they add nothing new to the scene...

    Cheers,

    Alex
