    Silverlight 2.0 Beta

With the recent news of Silverlight 2.0 beta being released in quarter one of 2008, what will happen with the ComponentOne Silverlight Alpha tools?

    Re: Silverlight 2.0 Beta

We will update it to take advantage of all the new stuff in Silverlight 2.0.

Most likely, some of our basic controls will be replaced with the corresponding 'native' controls, and the higher level controls will continue with little or no change. We also plan to add a few controls that are still missing from our Studio.

If you have any requests or suggestions (including controls you would like to see added to the studio), please let us know.

The main thing I want to see is a rich text edit control that supports fonts, bold, colors, indent, multilines, etc.  The ability to initialize it with some sort of markup (HTML, RTF, etc) would be great too..

Same here. For me this would be the most important enhancement.

Thank you both for the suggestion.

I don't think Microsoft is planning a rich text box for SL 2.0, so that's definitely a great candidate for a new control.

    Re: Silverlight 2.0 Beta

We are currently getting ready to post an update to our library.

This update was built against the lastest version of Silverlight, the Beta 2.0 Microsoft just published at Mix last week. The update will be available for download later on this week (Friday at the latest).

The main goal for this update was compatibility with our public Alpha bits and of course with the SL 2.0 beta. We are not yet taking advantage of the new features in SL 2.0. That will be the goal of the next version of the library, which we will announce soon after this update is posted.

Yes, absolutely a rich text editor  would be the most important control, I would license it as soon as it's out even if its beta. Also some convenience controls like Brush selectors, etc would be nice.

BTW, where will the download of the new built be? Perhaps you can post the url in this thread when its ready.

    Re: Silverlight 2.0 Beta

Hi all. Thanks for your patience. The new bits are now available for download at

    http://www.componentone.com/pages.aspx?PagesID=269&PanelIndex=7

    Or you can go to

    http://labs.componentone.com/sapphire

And click the "sign up" button.

This version was built with the latest Silverlight 2.0 beta released by Microsoft after MIX 2008. Our main focus was source code compatibility with the applications you have been building using the alpha bits posted earlier. Still, you will have to make some changes to existing apps in order to build. Please make sure you check out the readme that comes with the download.
