Area Chart not showing single year data??

If I have a data set of 10,20,30,0,50,0 the area graph won't show the data point for the 50 value.  It does for the bar graph, (ie I get 4 bars showing), but when I switch it to an area graph, instead of showing the graphing rising up from 0 to 50 and then going back down, it just doesn't show the value.  I have to have at least 2 consectutive years for it to graph, ie 11, 12, 13, 0, 15, 16 will sort of work (instead of going down to 0, it truncates the shape at 13 and starts it up again at 15).

Any idea how to get past this without upgrading to newest release?
