    Doc2Help 3.0 conversion to Doc2Help2007

    Hello,

I need upgrade an old 3.0 project to 2007. But every option I tried has failed.

What are the basic 3.0 files? (I have got a lot of files in a folder but do not know what they are)

Can anyone give me advise on how to upgrade?

    Regards,

    Pieter

    Hello Pieter,

there are several options for upgrading a project from 3.0 to 2007, all more or less satisfying:

    1. convert first to D2H2000, then convert via "Convert existing D2H2000 project" to D2H2007

    2. convert WinHelp project (resp. HTML Help project) to D2H2007

    3. create a new project in D2H2007, add your Worddocument(s) to this project or copy their contents via the clipboard.

    my experience with these options:

    (1) requires Word 2000, D2H2000, Worddocuments, doc2help.ini and the most current target directory with its files.
While the transformation to D2H2000 usually runs smoothly, the converter in D2H2007 might stumble, even if you have done everything the diagnostics (strongly recommended!)  in D2H2000 noticed.

    (2) requires the most current output generated by D2H3. For WinHelp this consists of a .hpj file, .rtf files and auxiliary files*
While this is a good chance to carry your context IDs savely to D2H2007, you might have to do some postprocessing, e.g. add the parts the have been marked as manual only, rdo list formattings, rearrange margin notes and glossary.
    * You might even try to start with your hlp file (please see http://doctohelp.com/nethelp/ for more information)
If you created HTML Help with V3, be prepared that your contents will remain in HTML, and there might be a lot to do in order to get a manageable d2h2007 project even if you have Dreamweaver or Frontpage and know them well.

    (3) requires a running D2H2007 and the Worddocuments and some time.
The advantage of this method is that it is a good opportunity to split long Worddocuments (70 pages +) into smaller ones, create a project free of relics, and use the benefits of C1 D2H (e.g. maintaining context IDs in the documents).
